Hotel near the Alabama State Capital

Staybridge Suites Montgomery Opening Spring 2008!

As one of only a few state capitals designated a National Historic Landmark, today’s Alabama State Capital upholds its distinguished place in American history. As the site where Jefferson Davis took the oath of office as President of the Confederate States of America on Feb. 18, 1861, the Alabama State Capital building began its heritage in controversy. As the decades slipped by, the building would again become the site of controversy, this time as the end point of the landmark Selma-to-Montgomery Civil Rights March. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered one of his many moving speeches from the bottom of its steps at the end of that march.

Saturdays are available for guided tours at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Admission is Free. Closed on Sundays and state holidays.
